Retro Fit Truma Electric Element.

Purchaesd from Leisureshop direct, item arrived quickly. Fitting was straight forward with clear instructions. I managed to fit the element without taking the fire out there by avoiding the need to uncouple the gas supply. Although expensive, it does take away the need for a convector heater and being blown air it does mean the bathroom is now nice and warm.

I bought this Truma Ultraheat Electric Heater because we only had the Truma gas fire part in our motorhome and wanted the flexibility when on EHU. I was dreading how complicated the installation would be - completely unfounded. Clear concise instructions, step by step and everything was easily identifiable. A breeze to fit, even for a novice like me. The whole thing was fitted in under 3 hours. The results were well worth the cost too with precise regulation of temperature in our motorhome.

I was always a little averse to fitting a heater that, on the face of it, looks very expensive. Yes, you can get a LOT of gas for £250. That said, when using gas we were having issues with condensation on the inside of the windows, running down onto the window sill, and in one place, causing a damp patch in the wall board. The answer, I thought, would be a small oil filled radiator. Nope, not powerful enough to keep the caravan warm. I then tried a small fan heater. Nope, too noisy at night - and both of these in a 14ft caravan with too Springer Spaniels and a five year old caused a significant trip hazard!
I fitted the Ultraheat over about three evenings. Evening one, getting the existing heater out and giving it a good clean. Evening two, fitting the element inside the heater, and refitting the heater to the 'van. Evening three, wiring everything up, and burning off the 'new heater smell'.
There are a few of things you have to watch out for:
1) It wasn't entirely clear from the description if the unit came with a new flue seal (it does) or the cosmetic surround for the controller (it does).
2) When removing the flue, I had to cut one of the attachment brackets with a Dremel as the screw head had been rounded off by the previous install. I would recommend buying '237311' "Exhaust Duct Fitting Complete" because, you will probably need it!!!
3) Have a large packet of plasters ready - the tin work of the heater is very sharp!

should only be installed by competant electriction and gas engineer as fitting this item also requires removal of the gas heater housing and re-sealing of the gas flue to the fire. superb effective supplimentary heating, give thought to position of external temp control to get more accurate control...highly recommended.

Bit of a pain to fit, but when its in its fantastic. Saves using gas when you can make the most of the EHU on sites.
Slightly more explanation with the instructions would be good.
