Thule was established in Sweden in 1942 by Erik Thulin, when he started making products for Swedish fisherman. In 1955 the first Thule car product was designed: a grill for protecting car headlamps from stones and then the first Thule ski rack was made in 1962. Thule went on to manufacture car roof racks with baskets in the earl y 1960’s and by 1968 had made the very popular Classic 68 roof rack. By 1977 Thule had designed their first actual roof box, the Ski box TB-11 and had moved onto carriers for surf boards by 1983. Thule quickly went onto manufacturing the Thule Combibox 250 only a year later. In 1992 Thule’s first towbar mounted bike carrier was designed and by 1997 they had become the world’s largest producer of roof boxes. Thule continued to bring their customers closer to their passions by manufacturing the Thule Hull-a-Port kayak carrier, which was a top seller in the U.S In 2004 they launched a bestseller……the Thule 591 ProRide roof mounted bike carrier.
