The Outwell Birchdale 6PA is a large family tent that offers incredible convenience at an affordable price. Thanks to its rigid, inflatable air channels, you don't need to thread poles through the canvas, bringing total pitching time down to just 10 minutes.
The front of the tent features a spacious porch, with plenty of room for storing muddy walking boots. Behind that is the main living area. Outwell includes darkened mesh windows to allow light to penetrate while providing privacy and shade at the same time. The top of the tent is finished with a light, cream-coloured canvas that creates a warm, beautiful ambience inside when the sun is shining.
At the rear, you'll find the bedroom area. Outwell includes a dividing inner which allows you to split it into two compartments with sufficient space for three in each. The industry standard is to provide 60 cm width for each tent occupier. However, the Birchdale offers a more generous 70 to 80 cm per person. The bedroom comes with the brand's Quick and Quiet door magnetic door fastening technology, which eliminates annoying zipper sounds.
Outwell also focuses on delivering exceptional quality with this tent. The fully sewn-in Oxford groundsheet prevents moisture from the ground from penetrating the interior of the tent. And the HookTrack system allows you to quickly and easily suspend lights on the inside, without having to come up with make-shift versions yourself. Both the fly and inner pitch together, saving you hassle during setup.
The Outwell Birchdale is made of Outtex 4000HH 100 per cent polyester fabric. The Rear Ventilation System allows you to increase airflow inside the tent on hot days. And the basic tunnel design allows for smooth circulation.
Sleeping up to six in two Premier Bedrooms with Panorama outlook, the Birchdale 6PA offers plenty of versatile space for family campers. Under the 180cm-deep canopy, its steep front door ensures easy access and more interior space. Fresh airflow is assured via twin side doors with mesh and low ventilation panels. Complete with storm webbings for extra stability.
Hanging Storage | Yes | A flexible hanging system which allows you to easily attach lighting or storage in your tent living area. Items of up to 1.5Kg can be conveniently hung along this beading rail, usually by a hook system. |
Hydrostatic Head (mm) | 4000 | The hydrostatic head of a fabric indicates how well it can keep water out and how waterproof it is. The higher the number, the better! A tent needs to have at least 1000mm HH for light showers, heavy rain and driving wind will put more pressure on the fabric and would therefore require a higher HH of 2000mm. Anything higher than this figure means it can keep out water being pushed through by someone leaning against it for example. |
Material | Polyester | Most tents are made from different denier polyester, which is a lightweight, very waterproof material. Polycotton is a heavier fabric, that breathes well allowing campers to stay cooler in sunnier climates. It is also very good at reducting condensation inside the tent. |
Number of Bedrooms | 2 | This is the number of sectioned off bedrooms that are included in this tent. The standard industry allowance is 60cm per person, though larger or premium tents often provide more space. |
Persons | 6 | Tent berth indicates how many people your tent can accommodate for sleeping. The industry standard allocates about 60cm of width per occupant, though exact dimensions can vary by manufacturer. If you prefer extra elbow room, you may want a tent berth larger than your headcount. Many campers size up by one or two berths to improve comfort on longer trips. |
Pole construction | Inflatable Air Tubes | This is whether the poles are inflatable (air) or rigid (e.g - fibreglass / steel or aluminium). |
Porch Area | Yes | A porch area gives campers a lot of extra room, that can be used as a wet zone (drying off before entering the main living space), storage of all your outside gear overnight, or as a place to cook and dine or a great area for your family dog to sleep. It adds a lot of versatility to your camping lifestyle. |
Weight (kg) | 29.60 | This is the weight of the tent in kg. |
Wing Area | No | An additional wing area can be very useful as it can be used as an extra bedroom area, storage of toys and camping equipment or as a place to put a comfy inflatable sofa, so you can sit back and read your favourite book. Alternatively, it is an ideal spot for the family dog to sleep. |
