Hello Tom I have a Dometic RM7271 fridge. It starts well on gas but goes out later on and often fails to reignite. Its probably a basic question, but is the fridge supposed to go out when it has reached the desired temperature and fire up later on? Or should the flame be constant, and only regulated by the facia knob 1 - 8 If it is constant how does it defrost ? It never ices up as previous fridges used to.

Answer

When working on gas the flame should remain lit at all times and is regulated by the thermostat. It should not freeze up. If the flame goes out then there is likely to be a fault with the thermocouple or the burner control unit. (workshop task).

It may simply be that there is dirt on the thermocouple tip preventing the correct heat transfer from the burner.
