Protective Covers
When working on gas the flame should remain lit at all times and is regulated by the thermostat. It should not freeze up. If the flame goes out then there is likely to be a fault with the thermocouple or the burner control unit. (workshop task).
It may simply be that there is dirt on the thermocouple tip preventing the correct heat transfer from the burner.
