Truma S 5004 heaters are absolutely reliable and very powerful: with two burners and heat exchangers, they provide pleasant warmth in all seasons. The practical control knobs allow you to set the precise fan speed and temperature. You can achieve an average room temperature of about 22 °C without the fan – for optimum heat distribution, we recommend that you run the caravan heater with fan. This also stops the air condensing on cold surfaces. The booster function distributes the warm air very quickly and also dehumidifies your caravan.

The Truma S5004 is a classic caravan heater that has proved its effectiveness over many years. The ergonomically shaped control units of the Truma S 5004 allow you to set the exact, desired temperature. The caravan heater can be retrofitted with a lighting kit and touch sensor.

The design is timelessly modern: with its flat cover the caravan heater blends perfectly into any interior. The Truma S 5004 is approved for installation in caravans. It is NOT suitable to be installed in a motorhome. Please refer to the Truma S3004 if you own a motorhome.

Please note, you will purchase the heater and the front cover of your choice separately.

13 FAQs on the Truma S5004 Gas Fire / Heater

Does the heat exchanger of a Truma S5004 LPG heater have to be replaced after a certain time?
No.

Neither the European Heating Appliance Directive 2006/119/EC nor the international directive UN ECE R122 specify replacement.

In the 1990s there was a German regulation which specified that heat exchangers had to be replaced after ten years. For Truma heaters manufactured and put into operation during this time, the replacement obligation was prolonged to 30 years. The European Heating Appliance Directive no longer specifies replacement for appliances approved after 06/2005.

The E1 mark on the type plate shows whether your heater is approved in accordance with the European Heating Appliance Directive and, consequently, was manufactured after 06/2005.
Can a Truma S5004 heater also be installed, for example, in a portacabin, etc.?
No.

Our heaters are not approved for use outside caravanning. Truma heaters may be installed only in Class O vehicles. The vehicle class can be found on the type approval in the certificate of registration.

If you have an S heater installed in a different vehicle class and it breaks down, it cannot be replaced with a new S heater.
Can Truma heaters also be installed in mobile homes?
No.

Approvals for fixed buildings have changed so that Truma heaters cannot be installed in mobile homes. Our appliances are approved for recreational vehicles.

Heaters that are already installed are protected by a grandfather clause.
May I install a Truma heater in the awning?
No.

Our current appliances are approved only for recreational vehicles. Therefore, installation in an awning is unfortunately not allowed.

But you can retrofit your Truma heater with an awning warmer. This directs the warm air from the existing caravan heater directly into the awning.

Heaters that are already installed are protected by a grandfather clause.
Do Truma LPG heaters require maintenance?
No.

However, with heaters that are supported by fans, we recommend that you clean the heat exchanger and the fan wheel fins with a paintbrush or vacuum cleaner before winter.

If the heater has an auto ignitor, we recommend that you replace the batteries about every two years or if the ignition frequency becomes slower. Use only batteries that are heat proof and that do not leak.
Does the Truma heater S 5004 have different dimensions to the previous model Truma S 5002?
Yes, the dimensions have changed.

Pay special attention to the red highlighted dimensions of TrumaS 5004 compared to S 5002. The depth of the floor base in the room is also smaller.
Can I reuse parts from Truma S 5002 in S 5004?
No.

The design of the S 5004 were changed and made more user friendly. Almost all parts were changed. Therefore, you cannot use the parts from S 5004 for older models. TEB/TN/TEN 1 and 2 fans can still be used with an adapter plate.
Can I reuse the cover from Truma S 5004 in S 5002?
This is not possible due to the different dimensions and connections and is therefore not approved.
Can I reuse warm air parts and cowls from Truma S 5002 in S 5004 with no modification?
Apart from cowl top T-1, you can use the warm air parts and cowls without modification.
How do I prepare the Truma S5004 heater for the travel season?
We recommend that you clean the Truma S heater before starting your holiday.

  • Remove the cover from the S heater.
  • Remove the dust that has accumulated on the heat exchanger or on the base plate.
  • Remove dust on the fan wheel of the Trumavent carefully with a paintbrush or a small brush.
  • Also check whether the exhaust cowl is damaged or contaminated with leaves, for example.
  • Insert the battery in the auto ignitor – if you do not hear ignition sparks or if they are more than a second apart, replace the battery. When replacing the battery, the heater must be switched off. Use only temperature-resistant (+70 °C) leakproof AA batteries. Other batteries may cause malfunctions.
How must the exhaust duct of my Truma heater be installed and what needs to be considered with the exhaust gas system?
Exhaust ducts must always be laid rising from the Truma heater towards the cowl.

If the exhaust gases from your Trumatic S still pass through an aluminium pipe, replace this with a stainless steel pipe.

Please note that the pipe must be replaced by an expert (e.g. Truma service partner).
Which Truma heaters can I retrofit with the digital CP plus iNet ready control panel?
The digital CP plus iNet ready control panel can be retrofitted with all Truma Combi heaters. Truma has been producing Combi heaters since 2007, they can be recognised by the grey cover. Since 2013, they have had a black cover.

With older heaters, such as Truma C heaters, the digital CP plus iNet ready control panel cannot be retrofitted.
How does the Truma S5004 heater work?
The heater is supplied with gas via a special connection (1). It is ignited by a battery-operated auto ignitor (2) in the burner (3). You can see through the inspection glass (4) if the gas has ignited. External air is sucked into the heater through an inlet (5) and is heated by the naked flame in the burner (3). The hot air flows through the S-shaped heat exchanger (6) and exits the system to the atmosphere together with the combustion air through the exhaust duct (7) and the roof cowl (8). This process is 100% safe thanks to the completely enclosed system and the thermoelectric safety pilot. The heat exchanger (6) heats the direct ambient air in the heater housing. It exits through the holes in the cover into the living area and, if necessary, is distributed in the caravan by the fan (14).

The temperature of the heater is infinitely adjustable with the manual knob on the control panel (9). This activates the safety pilot valve (12) via the control panel rod (11). When the required room temperature is reached, a thermostat sensor (13) regulates the gas supply to the burner and reduces it accordingly. The fan is controlled via a second control knob (10).

The Ultraheat additional electric heater (15) is the perfect supplement for everyone who wants additional electric heat and to get the RV nice and warm quickly independently of the gas supply. It heats very quickly and uses the fan of the S heater to distribute the warm air efficiently throughout the caravan.
