THIS COOLBOX USES ABSORPTION TECHNOLOGY

What is the difference between the cooling technologies?
ABSORPTION COOLING
Details of distinguishing features:
  • Gas-powered cooling independent of electricity
  • Three way cooling – Gas, 12 volts DC or 230 volts AC
  • Silent operation
  • Cooling performance depending on the ambient temperature

The Technical Bit
A concentrated ammonia solution is heated in a boiler and expelled as vapour. The pressurised ammonia gas is then liquefied in a condenser. Supplied with hydrogen, it evaporates and in the process extracts heat from the storage container. The ammonia gas then enters the absorber where it is reabsorbed in a weak solution of ammonia. Finally, the saturated solution flows back to the boiler where the whole cycle starts again.

THERMOELECTRIC TECHNOLOGY
Details of distinguishing features:
  • 12 / 24 / 230 Volt
  • Independent of inclination
  • Lightweight and low-cost
  • Cooling performance depending on the ambient temperature

The Technical Bit
The thermoelectric principle was discovered by J. C. A. Peltier, which is why the temperature generating parts of thermoelectric systems are referred to as Peltier elements. Thermoelectrics are based on the fact that cold or heat energy (depending on the polarity) is generated when a DC current is conducted between different types of metal. The heating or cooling capacity is further enhanced by heat exchangers and air fans. Ideal for low and medium cooling volumes.

COMPRESSOR TECHNOLOGY
Details of distinguishing features:
  • Excellent cooling performance even at extreme ambient temperatures
  • Refrigeration and deep-freezing
  • 12 / 24 / 100 – 240 volts
  • Low power consumption – suitable for solar operation
  • Battery protection
  • Quiet operation with little vibration
  • Independent of inclination

The Technical Bit
Compressor units operate using a refrigerant that changes from liquid to gaseous state in the evaporator. The evaporation extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit – the temperature drops. The compressor draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. Here, the absorbed heat is released to the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies again and flows to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again.

Keep It Level And It Will Work Well.

by Mr D J L Wonfor (30 Aug 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
This product was used when our caravan fridge failed on gas. We have used it all through the summer and it has worked brilliantly on Gas and electric. It was left outside on gas in the heat/wind and never failed. We protected it with a wind break. We did bring it into the awning at night. You do need to ventilate it and it must be kept level. We just used some caravan levelling chocks.

Great bit of kit.

Excellent fridge. Very good value for money. We use for camping each year and run off gas. Have to be careful not to set it too low otherwise we end up freezing things rather than just keeping cold!!

Domestic Combicool Rc2200 3 -way

by John Fenton (18 Aug 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
Bought this as a replacement for the CARAFREEZE chest freezer which packed up after 20 years. At first when reading the description I was a little worried that it wouldn't perform as well as the CARAFREEZE, but I needn't have as it was equally up to the task. The only thing that I would say is that you need to allow the 'freezer' to cool down so you need to turn it on the day before and put in frozen foods at it takes ages to drop the temperature if you don't. Having said that I tried it on all three methods. The gas seemed to work the quickest and the best although the 12v and 220v weren't far behind. I tried both the 12v and 220v through the day when travelling and turned onto gas when I had stopped. As I was a little sceptical as to whether it would be up to the task I put the ice cube tray on the top of the element and checked it regularly to make sure everything was still frozen. I used it continually for over a month and had no complaints, the food stayed frozen throughout. The machine looks every elegant and the aluminium construction made it light to handle and move about. The only complaint if you can call it that is that the 220v cable could have been a bit longer.

Make Sure It Is Level!

by Richard S. (14 Aug 2019)
4 star review(4/5)
Works very well indeed (only used on mains so far) once we have realised that it MUST be flat. Initially levelled to within 4 degrees of level but found it wouldn’t cool down. When chocked up it sprang into life and the only issue is that it can freeze stuff so you have to be careful how you load it.

Needs To Be Perfectly Level To Work.

by Shell (10 Aug 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
This is a great fridge, perfect for camping. When setting up you have to make sure it is perfectly level or it won't get very cold, but once working fully can make ice so will keep everything nice and cool 😊

Best Camping Fridge Ever

by R S. (08 Aug 2019)
4 star review(4/5)
Excellent fridge, makes ice , silent running ideal for tent. But make sure it is level, not nearly level as it is crucial to its performance. Oh and by the way, if it does stop working ,turn it upside down, you should hear the airlock moving/bubbling then turn it over and level it and it should be perfect.

A Fantastic Portable Fridge For Camping

by Anonymous (02 Aug 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
A fantastic product! I don’t normally write reviews but just had to on this occasion. We took the cool box with us to a music festival - we were camping in a tent for 4 days. The cool box kept all of our food beautifully refrigerated the whole time. Actually had to turn it down to start with as food was starting to freeze. We plugged it in to mains at home for 24 hours before we went and then used gas canisters when we were away. Placed the coolbox in our tent awning and it was just brilliant. Would definitely recommend! 5*

Its Huge, It's Perfect!

by Steve (22 Jul 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
It's huge, it's perfect, I run it off solar, inverter and batteries when off grid. Like all coolers it's power hungry when turned up full. As previous reviewers mentioned, plug it in at home on full for, 24 hours, then when on battery or gas turn it down to 3 or less, it will keep everything cold, ice packs help too.

You Have A Choice Of Fuel Gas, Mains And Battery

by Lesb6 (09 Jul 2019)
4 star review(4/5)
You can use these hooked up to any size calor gas bottle, not just a small can. Plug into the electric a day before you travel on its lowest setting for electric to get the condenser nice and cold, the condenser plate needs to be iced up, that's where your cool comes from. Then your car battery will maintain the temperature while traveling. We found the lowest gas setting was needed to get a good working temperature in 20+°heat. It holds large milk, fruit juice, yogurts wine, cooked meats etc. But be careful if anything touches the ice it will freeze.

Top Kit

by Lorli (25 Jun 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
It’s a brilliant little fridge which produces ice on mains or gas. It has good internal space for larger milk bottles and stays cold overnight even when it’s not on. The cube shape makes it easy to store and pack into your kit. I use the bottled gas version which is fantastically economic.

This Fridge Really Works!

by Amazon Customer (11 Jun 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
I've used plenty of Gas Fridges over many years of camping and for those who have done the same, you'll understand what I mean when I say "That they are temperamental little %^$&£"!
This one is by far the best fridge I have ever bought. Easy to light and fast to cool down but wow, the coldest camping fridge I have ever used. I usually set them to full whack as with constantly opening and closing the lid, they have a job to maintain a set temperature. This one served me up a solidly frozen can of beer from being placed in it the night before. Now on its lowest setting, everything is really cool and a packet of frozen peas has only just defrosted from being placed in it 5 days ago. Price is great and I will be ordering another one as we need 1 for drinks and 1 for food.
If I have to be mean and put a negative, it is only that the lid does not seal shut with a confident suction but merely closes by being placed down. This is perfectly ok but when filled too much, you cannot guarantee it will not spring slightly open. Easy solution though, we simply placed a full box of wine on it........Simple!

A Good Bit Of Kit That Keeps Things Cold

by Dailydad (27 May 2019)
4 star review(4/5)
A great fridge for camping. It took me a while to decide to buy one of these given its size and cost so here is a balanced view following its first camping trip.
Positives:
- It keeps things cold! Thought, as advised, its best to have it on power over night to get the temp down before heading off. I have used this on 240v, 12v and gas and all work really well.
- Ease of use: The first time you start it on gas its a little tricky but you quickly learn how and then it was first time every time there after. I haven’t yet established the differences in temp against the control settings but it seemed cold enough (20c outside) on the mid setting.
- Solid build (with one exception, see below). I spent a little extra and got the aluminium case version and glad I did. It’s a little lighter but much more robust. Doors and knobs etc all seem robust and well made.
- It makes zero noise.
Negatives:
- One of the feet fell off the first time I used it. It was too much hassle to return so I glued it on and all now seems fine.
- Not really a negative but just a factor to be aware of. It does give off quite a bit of heat, especially in one area when on the gas. I wouldn’t put it against a tent wall or in an enclosed space to avoid heat damage.

Long Term User.....

by Richard Lincoln (27 May 2019)
5 star review(5/5)
I bought one of these fridges back in 2006, thats 13 years of use, year in, year out.
12v - have a leisure battery and substantial wiring.
Gas - I use a 5kg bottle, lasts for absolutely ages but can be tricky to light
240v when theres hook up - awesome, it'll make ice. When I bought mine it had a clever little ice cube tray with it.
This fridge have been used camping, in a camper van, as a supplementary fridge in a Caravan and more lately in a camping pod. It stopped working once so, under advice from a refridgeration engineer, I turned it upside down, gave it a good shake and stood it upside down for 24hrs. The thing came back to life.
I'm pretty sure that other than being picky, theres nothing to fault this fridge. It's given me many, many years of use.

A very good and spacious fridge that works in a vehicle, site hookup or with gas (not tested with gas yet though). 7 different levels (level 7 caused frost to form 😀). Used to hold milk, cheese, butter, yoghurt and more importantly, Gin!

A warning though: don't leave the fridge plugged in inside your vehicle, even if the fridge is turned off on the unit. It will still draw power and drain your battery (happened this morning and I am currently recharging my van battery!)

Thoroughly Recommend This Fridge.

by Ms Lesley St Pierre (30 Jul 2017)
5 star review(5/5)
We ordered this fridge because we were going camping on a site with no electricity on what turned out to be the hottest week of the year so far. It arrived the next day exactly on time. I found the descriptions of the fridges confusing. (Not just on Amazon. I had checked out other websites before buying). There was no explanation of the difference between models. I bought the cheaper one which I thought took butane canisters but it turned out to be the one that runs on camping gas. We took the connector off an unused stove and used our spare gas bottle.
The fridge cannot be used inside your tent or campervan. It does give off quite a bit of heat and fumes. We put it outside in a utility tent. We left it on low for the entire week and it worked a treat. Everything stayed cold, even when the temperature hit 39 degrees. And we still have half a bottle of gas left.
I thoroughly recommend this fridge. The only downside is it's a little on the bulky side but no worse than one of the larger cool boxes.

Nearly 100% happy with this.. Nearly. Well packaged, delivered 2 days after order to N.I. Installed on our boat for when we're away from shore power. Slight dinge on one of the feet but couldn't wait to have it replaced as I was heading away for a fortnight on the lakes. Wobbles a bit because of this, hence the reason only 4 stars. Recommended to a friend since who has also bought one for his boat.

Great Product (gas Canister Version) - But Some Room For Improvement

by Wolf359 (11 Jun 2017)
4 star review(4/5)
Overall, a great product (Gas canister version).
Have taken it camping twice now (camper van), and can safely say it does an excellent job on gas. The gas canisters last between about 21 to 26 hours depending on what setting you use. It gets properly 'domestic-fridge-cold' in there as long as you keep it in the shade and out of direct sunlight.

On the downside, the 12v option requires an 8 amp draw, which can be dashboard-melting territory for some vehicles. I tried it on the cigarette socket of my big LWB van but got nervous when the 12v socket got extremely hot, so I decided to unplug it for the rest of the journey.
The contents were still cool when I arrived, and once fired up on gas, it was very cold the next morning.

You also have the issue of needing to keep the coolbox outside while it's running on gas. It does smell of 'hot gasses' if running in an enclosed space, so decent ventilation is essential.

Also something to consider - as a camper van user, if I choose not to put up the awning, which can be a pain for a 1-nighter, I still have to keep the coolbox outside, so hence need a way to house it. So far I have used a cheap pop-up shower tent which sort-of works okay unless it's windy and then the tent blows away! If anyone has any ideas for an alternative outdoor coolbox enclosure, it might help me and others if you could post your suggestions here :o)

Pros...
It works! It gets food really cold and makes ice cubes
It's quite affordable
It has a big capacity and you can stand 2L bottles upright and still close the lid.

Con's
It can be really heavy, especially when full.
The 12v system requites a LOT of current (8A) see notes above
It produces a "hot gasses" exhaust smell when running on gas
It's the wrong shape to fit into many spaces (it's square and bulky) - A rectangle shape would have been a more user-friendly design.
As far as I can tell, it's currently the only one on the market that uses gas canisters

So Far, Most Impressed.

What has really impressed me was that while we were running this on gas outside under the tent canopy overnight there was a huge storm with very strong winds. I expected the fridge to have been blown out by the storm but in the morning it was still going … amazing!

Fantastic Camping Fridge

by Lynn (17 Nov 2016)
5 star review(5/5)
I camp a lot, and with a 3 week trip through Europe coming up I decided that I wanted to upgrade on my electric cool box.

This fridge opens at the top, but it is a proper fridge rather than a cool box, in fact it's so efficient that if you set it too cold it will freeze your drinks!

You can use it plugged into the mains, or a car socket or with a gas bottle. I have used it all 3 ways and it's worked like a dream. Yes you have to be careful to keep it level when using it with gas, bit I haven't had any problems.

Since we've been home from our trip this fridge has seen regular use as a beer fridge for parties, a travel fridge in the car for long trips and for various family members who have borrowed it. I know it looks expensive but it really is one of the best things I've ever bought and it's been worth every penny.

Cracking little fridge this is.
Seems to work well even when not set 100% level, unlike some.
The controls do not appear to be very sensitive though, it's either slightly cold or very frozen, no middle ground, but that's no real problem.

We purchased this for a camping holiday and have just used it with gas. It lit straight away and was soon so cold it was freezing anything that touched the back of it.
It made our holiday much easier because it is large enough to store a few days worth of meals and there was a nice cold drink waiting there at the end of the day and no more warm milk and cereal!!!
I loved the little ice cube tray

Great little fridge for camping.
Have been very happy with this, cold beers and food at a festival, great!
One thing worth mentioning, the gas cartridge cradle on the back, it seems as if it could do with something extra to put under the can, to hold it up. I was worried about it dropping out while in use so i wedged it up to be sure.
Works a treat on mains, gas and 12v. Very happy, would have been 5 stars if the cradle was better. I spoke with somone at dometic, they didn't seem to think it was an issue and were a little unhelpful.

Used this fridge while camping without mains hookup , so used it on gas supply from a bottle. What a great fridge it kept all the food and beer cold even in warm conditions . Had to keep the thermostat at medium or the fridge just got too cold and froze the beer. Much better than the 12v cold box we used to use, and it hardly used any gas at all. Makes ice cubes as well. The build quality is second to none and the aluminium case looks premium. Well pleased and would not go back to a cool box which did not really do the job!! . Don't have to worry about mains power anymore .

5 star review(5/5)
Purchased for use as a camping fridge but as we're not going for another few weeks we've been using it as a spare fridge for milk and butter in our kitchen. So far it's performed flawlessly although to date I can only comment on running it on mains electricity.

In the 6 weeks we've been running it there is a small amount of ice buildup around the top of the fridge which will need defrosting before we go camping.

I'll update once we return from the trip!

Cannot fault this product! We used it in Italy in the hear of the summer (it was in excess of 32 Celsius every day!) and it performed brilliantly. Even producing Ice! Used during the long car journey on 12volt mode and with mains power. Haven't tried on gas.

Also used at home for drinks at summer BBQ's.

Perfect for camping trips or for using at home as a second fridge. In my opinion, it's certainly worth the extra money from the lower model!

It ran fine together with a LP gas lantern and a LP gas stove, all running simultaneously off a 3 socket propane tree attached to a 1 gallon propane tank ,designed for camping.-no leaks.

Excellent item, highly recommended. Have been camping for many years & this fridge, bought as a replacement for one that lasted a good 15 years, is not too heavy or unwieldy for me (5'4") to lift & carry, is easy to connect up & get going, and worked extremely well for the week that we were camping in a field with no electricity. Seems pretty robust, too, despite being a lot lighter than the one it replaced.

Quiet, Cool (to Freezing If Needed) In All Temperatures.

by Paul S (09 Aug 2015)
5 star review(5/5)
Bought this for camping in our tent, after 2 weeks on 240v mains it performed superbly, always keeping the food chilled to a little above freezing (the cooling plate cools to the point of freezing - just like a domestic fridge).

Pros

1. Keeps cool, even in 49'C tent !
2. Would frreeze as needed if set high enough.
3. Lightweight despite having a metal exterior.
4. Easy to clean.
5. Totally silent, no pump or fan noise or any other noise of any kind. Wouldn't even know it was on.

Cons

- None as such

Improvements that could be made

1. There's room inside the casing for electrical cable housing - then those wires/cables/plugs are out of the way !
2. The flap lid to the control panel is always coming open when you carry it, leaving potential for break off - sort it - slide it !
3. The main lid is not properly sealed airtight, seal it with a replaceable rubber seal - the multi-fin type.
4. The main lid is not clamped shut, add a flush metal catch to shut it & even lock it.
5. The nice metal casing looks flash (Pro ??) but dents easily (Con ??) and will tarnish at some point, could this be done in a plastic instead?
6. Could you make one with sturdy, detachable levelling legs/feet (about 3 inches tall would do) - screw up in. This provides the clearance for aircirculation - I bought a small low table to stand it on - unlevelled - when full it collapsed.

Not tried on 12v or gas yet.

Perfect Product!

by Mrs. H. (27 Jul 2015)
5 star review(5/5)
We’ve had our fridge for 4 years now and it is brilliant! We’ve just been camping and once again thought how perfect this fridge is. We use it several times a year for camping, sometimes using it with electricity and sometimes with gas. We also plug it into the cigarette lighter on the journey, just to keep everything cool. We also use it at home as a beer/wine fridge, so it’s almost constantly in use.

It will chill to 30 degrees centigrade below the amibient temperature which means that in the UK it will usually make ice, if you want it to. It comes with a small ice tray that clips on to the chilling element. It’s a good size – you can store 2-litre bottles upright in it. We have a dog and feed him raw food and it’s plenty big enough for his food and our drink for a weekend plus other bits and pieces. You have to make sure there’s enough space for air to circulate at the back of the fridge. A great product and well worth the price.

5 star review(5/5)
Bought this for a three week caravan holiday this year to supplement the fitted fridge. We kept it in the awning and ran it on mains electricity. It didn't miss a beat and my beer was really cold when I came off the beach. One precaution I took was to make a small plywood plinth to raise it off the ground a couple of inches just to avoid getting it damp. Good job I did because after a couple of days of Welsh rain we had puddles in the awning.

Ice Cold Beers On A Warm Day....

by Pidge (22 Jul 2015)
5 star review(5/5)
Not many reviews for this fella, so thought I'd leave my thoughts. Bought one of these a few weeks ago after always fancying cold beers and fresh food while camping, but never being sold on the idea of lugging a big gas bottle around. This takes standard gas cartridges that you can pick up for a pound or so, and runs quite happily for a day on one of these on maximum.

It's brilliant. Hot sunny day and an ice cold drink while out somewhere with no electricity is just superb. You have to keep it level, but it cools brilliantly. I turned it off at night, but it's brilliantly insulated, so all your stuff is still ice cold in the morning as long as you don't keep opening it while turned off.

The ice cube tray didn't work for me. I believe you're supposed to put it on the cooling element to freeze the ice, but it just kept slipping off. Will take some blu-tac or something next time to give that a try. It only makes six small cubes, but still better than nothing.

Tested it off the mains at home, and it works great on that too. Not tried 12v.

I've not used it in high temperatures so not sure how well it'd cool if you're camping somewhere hot, but for the UK it's perfect.

Camp Where You Want!

by S. Dyer (08 Jul 2015)
5 star review(5/5)
Camping at Silverstone for the F1 this year and the electric hook-ups had all sold out. What to do? We only have an electric cool box and the forecast was vague regarding how long the heatwave would last.
So I looked into gas powered coolers with a view to getting one next day on prime delivery so we would have it in time. Having checked a few reviews, it was clear that the slightly cheaper models would not do for a 30 degree summer so I went for this one. I reckoned the extra cost was ok considering we will use it for every camping trip from now on, and boy, was it worth it! It works extremely well, and is very controllable. Turned it down at night and up again for the day and it kept everything just the right temperature. Make sure it's flat (we used a couple of crushed beer cans and popped an iPhone on top as a level) when using on gas. If you're looking at this as a long term purchase, I would say it's well worth it over the £170 cheaper model. Now we will camp where we want and never worry about electric hook-ups again. Even in very hot places ;-)

Rolls-royce Of Fridges - Glamping Must

by Mike Smith (24 Jun 2015)
5 star review(5/5)
This is the one to buy. Its slightly more expensive than the lesser models, but cools supremely. I just cant work out why I never bought one before. Its about the size of a large coolbox, and is easily liftable empty, but needs careful lifting when full. Its so powerful you can actually freeze things if you set it on the coldest setting, so be careful.

Hint: before going anywhere on your travels cool everything down in it in plastic bags. Lift the bags out and then place fridge in the car and restock the backs inside. when you get to the other end its vice-versa. The unit can be plugged in the car/van 12v supply for long journeys, but not necessary for short ones. I bought a 7kg Calor Gas bottle to use when camping and its excellent - cheaper than Campinggaz. Just make sure you buy the correct regulator as Butane and Propane require different ones.

Feet Fell Off First Time Used

by Gibson (30 May 2015)
4 star review(4/5)
Would have given 5 stars but as another reviewer has mentioned the design could have incorporated an led or neon indicator to confirm that power is on .One of the rubber feet has come of first time used which on investigation of the others suggest that the hole for the self tapping screws are slightly too big and don't tighten securely all need super glue attention. The fridge works well on 12v and mains but the afore mentioned items makes me wonder how well it is made.

Big, Shiny and SIlent - just how I like our coolers

240v to chill at home before leaving in our camper,

Works perfectly and can hold enough beer to sink a battleship!

When adding extra supplies to the cooler it chills down in no time - a truly excellent purchase.

Why didn't we buy one of these 3 way fridges before instead of struggling with an X-treme coolbox ? It gets cold really quickly and you can keep it cold on your journey with the plug-in to the car battery. (Remember not to cover the vents when travelling). It's great to have everything at really cold temperatures but without all the water in the bottom we had with the coolbox. For the price we paid - £148 for gas, battery and electric - it's brilliant and absolutely silent when operating. The electric lead is only about a metre long so you may need an extension. Well recommended for campers and extra space for big occasions at home.

Great, Very Impressed. So Quiet!

by Chris C (16 May 2015)
5 star review(5/5)
I thought I had a faulty product as it makes NO noise at all! I decided to wait 30 minutes - just as well, as the product works brilliantly (on electricity anyway, haven't hooked it up to gas yet), and dropped the temperature by over 10 degs C in less than an hour. It is so quiet - impossible to believe how it works without making any noise! Seems well made, is very roomy, and will be more than adequate as an emergency fridge, or on my camping holidays. Nice, simple design means it will be very easy to clean. Delivery was very quick and arrived in perfect condition.

Good Fridge

5 star review(5/5)
Used it with electrical hook up. Did lots of research on portable chill devices and this came out as most suitable. I had it set on 7 and some items froze inside so next time I will check out the ambient temperature and adjust to suit the conditions. Really good if you go self catering when you camp.

The internal plate covering the element had come away but once replaced all was well. Plugged it into the mains and within a couple of hours it became very very cold! Happy days! We will need this when on a 6 month road trip to keep the beers/other sundry items cool!

Ordered Sunday evening, delivered Wednesday early a.m.! Can't get better than that!
Have powered it up and using a thermometer can see that it reduces temp. as specified but haven't tested it on gas or 12v. However the real test will be in a few weeks time when it will be called into active service. I think that I am optimistic!

This is a life saver for any camper, I go to a lot of VW events and my van isn't a full camper so I was using a cool box which gave limited life to anything I wanted to take. Since buying this fridge I've taken all my meals and snacks, used it on hook up and gas both excellent, if anything too cold.
It's not a cheap product but for anyone going away you will save the money on what you don't need to spend eating out within a few days

I don't usually bother writing reviews but this time I feel I need to say how happy I am with this item. I have replaced an old 12v cooler with this Domestic cooler. I tried it out at the weekend and it was amazing, if anything too good. I need to work out the optimum setting but this first time out I had it set at its coldest and it kept a box full of ice cubes frozen all weekend, along with our food and drinks. The amount of gas used was also impressive, I was expecting it to guzzle gas but it hardly used any.
A top purchase which I would recommend to anyone wanting a portable cooler/fridge.

Careful When Using On Gas

by Mrsannieroberts (30 Oct 2014)
4 star review(4/5)
Great fridge. Perfect for camping. Just be careful to keep it absolutely level if using on gas as it doesn't work if it's at an angle.
Also, when using gas, it does give off quite a lot of heat, so keep well clear of the sides of your tent...ours got a little 'burnt' - lucky we noticed when we did!!

Really good quality item. My only suggestion is for a level indicator to Show when its level for using on gas. Apart from that, its brilliant. Looking forward to putting it through its paces after some home tests.

Brilliant Cooler!

by Pit (17 Sep 2014)
5 star review(5/5)
This cooler is brilliant. If I had realized how good I would have bought one a long time ago instead of these plug in cool boxes that don't really work that well. This is a small size fridge freezer. It will easily go down to -15C if you feel you want to. The three way power is excellent working very well in each mode. You need to be aware that the unit does draw 7-8 amps on twelve volts, however the thermostat ensures that it is not drawing that all the time, so the plug does not heat up. The one on my ordinary cooler draws 2-3 amps but is on all the time and so gets hot if used for an extended period.
The unit is large but surprisingly not as heavy as it looks. It appears robustly made. We use it for travel to and from our caravan, and at home it is plugged in 240 volt all the time, drawing 0.35 amps when the thermostat clicks in.
I was so impressed I bought a second for my step son.

Camping Essential

5 star review(5/5)
A really good bit of kit for the price. We use it for camping and put the food and drink in at home and plug it in to cool; run it on 12V in the car while we travel and then back on to mains or gas while we camp. Keeps everything cold on really hot days in a hot tent. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Fantastic

by John F. (24 Jun 2014)
5 star review(5/5)
Works great on 240v & gas, haven't tried 12v so can't comment.
As the instructions say, you need to turn the control knob down once it is at the temperature you want otherwise the beer freezes!
Ice maker sits on the cooling element so you can have a 'cool' fridge and still make ice
The rear doesn't get as hot as you would think so I could unplug and pop straight in the boot without any concerns (means you can get the fridge down to temperature at home before you set off, stays cool in the boot for hours if you leave the lid shut)

A Powerful Convenient Product

by Clive Evans (16 Jun 2014)
5 star review(5/5)
After struggling for years with insulated boxes and ice packs, we finally saw this product. Whilst we all know gas fridges have been around for donkeys, we had never moved to the large gas cylinder approach. We like the convenience of the smaller cartridges.

Why did it take so long to make a cartridge fridge then? Well my bet is that they took the time to get it right, because this unit is brilliant. Easy to use, and very cold. In a cooler May, we had to turn it down to min just to stop the milk freezing overnight. In the end, we turned it off overnight.

30 hours a cartridge on min. Highly recommended.

Great Fridge

by Willbh (27 Apr 2014)
5 star review(5/5)
uses really very little gas and keeps contents cold enough for camping/caravanning. Used an old 904 gas bottle that was nearly empty and it just never seemed to run out!
Decent size internally
haven't tried it on 12V yet, but don't have a leisure battery and don't want to wake up with a flat main battery, they DO pull a lot of current from 12V..
Only tried it very briefly on 230Vac.. it works, but I seldom have an electrical hook-up when I'm camping

Very Powerful, Useful Item

by A. Niola (26 Apr 2014)
4 star review(4/5)
It's perfect for camping sites and useful also as extra fridge when getting a big shop. It takes some room so if you are planning to place it in your car, check the size properly. Tried it on the go only once for a 2 hours drive and beer and coke were almost frozen at the arrive - very powerful! Once we parked, the fridge stayed in the car all night turned off and drinks were still very cold on the following morning

Works Well

by Slide Master (15 Oct 2013)

Note this a review for the Waico RC2200 - be careful, Amazon showed an incorrect product description against the RC1200. Their original advert described a RC2200, but I had delivered an RC1200. The supplier was brilliant and made the exchange, but I had to pay the extra to make it up to the right price.

I have used it with 12V in the vehicle, and 240V on a hook up. It is worth spending that little bit extra to get the RC2200. It kept food cold, even in temperatures above 30 degrees centigrade.

The cooler gets ***** the supplier gets ***** for the no quibble replacement, and providing replacement / pick up carriage at no extra charge Amazon get * for not checking / understanding the product they were marketing.

Great Fridge

by Meld (04 Sep 2013)
5 star review(5/5)
I bought this to take to France on a family camping trip.
Fantastic cooling throughout the 10 day holiday with lots more space than you think.
Completely silent operation. To begin with we weren't even sure if it was working it was so quiet.
The only day it struggled was when it was 38 degrees, but given the outside temperature and how hot it was in the tent it didn't leave me disappointed.
It is quite bulky, we have a standard family hatchback, it did fit in the boot but not room for an awful lot else so a roof box is requiredif you don't have a huge vehicle.

Overall very very happy with the fridge and would completely recommend for a camping trip.

Perfect For Camping

by R. Reader (24 Aug 2013)
5 star review(5/5)
After messing around with cool boxes for years we decided that a fridge was the way to go for this year's trip to France. Well worth it seems it allowed us to use more fresh produce and kept the beers cold. It plugs into the car's 12v socket while on the move and then plugs into the campsite electrical supply (you need an appropriate hook up). No regrets.

I bought this for our Scout Group and used it at our Family Camp. It was a hot weekend but it was able to keep 5 6-pint bottles of milk cold along with a couple of pints of cream and some bacon. It was easy to connect to a gas bottle and easy to carry from the van to our site. It will get a lot of use.

Excellent peice of kit! Have only used it on 12v and Electric but both work brilliantly. Lots of space to store beers bottles and food. Very sturdy build and easy to carry (when not full of beer!)

One thing that would be usefull is some sort of LED indicator light to show when i'ts getting power, especilly when on 12V as it's so quiet you can't hear if it's working or not.

Deffo recommend for any campers. I actually use it when not camping to keep beers cold..

Bought this after seeing a friends fridge on a camping weekend. I wanted something that we can use for a long trip around France. Although I've not used it in anger yet I can see how flexible it will be - plugs in to mains electricity, car power outlet and gas canister. I also plan to use it for beers during the summer when we host parties.

Great Cool Box

by Ms. M. J. Hallifax (12 Sep 2011)
5 star review(5/5)
The cool box is easy to use. Travelling I used 12volt and connected to gas at the site. The cool box was very quiet and efficient. If I had hook up I could choose the 240Volt option. A very versatile cool box and plenty of room to store milk etc. and everything kept fresh. One thing to consider the box is quite large and therefore takes up quite a lot of travelling space.
