Kept forgetting to switch the heater off when using a kettle or microwave etc. In the caravan. So, thought we needed something to do it for us and found the Alde Load Monitor. Fitted and tested it in less than 2 hours and it works perfectly. Highly recommended
Straightforward To Fit And Works Well

Running the Alde central heating using EHU priority has tripped the mains supply several times when using additional 240V equipment in the caravan. To save myself ongoing inconvenience, I decided to fit the Alde load monitor. Fitting was straightforward although I did need to shorten the lead to the Alde unit by about 5 metres. It works very well and is recommended for any Alde central heating installation.

Great Product

The Alde Load monitor is a great little device and relatively easy to fit, if you have an average diy electrical knowledge (otherwise consult an electrician). The product monitors the current load drawn by your caravan is microwave, kettle, toaster etc and then adjusts the current drawn by the heating system so that the site limit is not exceeded and the site mcb (fuse) is not tripped. Especially useful abroad where 6 amp sites are common.

It was a right pain having to turn down the heating before using any appliance, then forgetting to switch the heating back on. So when I saw the monitor, I thought it was worth around £40 if it worked as described. It has changed my life! I just put the heating on 2kW and forget about it now. You need to tell the boiler what the current limit is for the pitch circuit breaker so it can work out how much current to limit itself to. This is done on the control panel, then that's it; no more issues. It's worth the money, even though it is a bit expensive for what it is.

I bought the Alde Load Monitor to prevent the Alde boiler tripping the circuit breaker when my motorhome is connected on sites electric hook up. Even with a 16 amp ehu if the Alde boiler is running at 3 KW and something like a kettle or microwave is switched on it's very likely the power will be tripped on the ehu bollard. With the Load Monitor connected you can set the maximum allowed current drawn from the supply and if this is exceeded the Alde boiler's power will be automatically reduced to keep within the limit you have set. Switching off the boiler completely if necessary. Once the load of the i.e kettle is removed the boiler will automatically return to its previous setting. The monitor will only control the boiler it cannot control other mains equipment but as the boiler is likely to be the highest wattage device installed that should be all that is necessary.
The instruction that came with it are pretty useless but fortunately there is a good article from Practical Caravan detailing the installation. Link here:-

After connecting up and enabling in the Alde control panel I have found it works well and should save the embarrassment of tripping the power on site. Seems a lot of money for what you get but I guess that applies to most motorhome/caravan accessories but for me it was worth it and Leisure Shop Direct was the cheapest I found and delivery was quick

Good Accessory But Could Be Cheaper

Alde Load Monitor is a simple bit of kit be it a little expensive IMHO, easy to fit once I got access to the live cable into the PSU, Coachman know how to make this difficult by locating it where they have in the 2015 VIP. I bought this to hopefully reduce the risk of blowing the site EHU fuse when the heating system is running and the microwave is used, and when we visit France again as they usually only have 6amps supply.
