Drivers in Wales and those with a Waeco caravan fridge may see disruption in the Heads of the Valley as a scheme to improve the road gets underway.
A £150 million scheme to improve the A465 has been planned by the Welsh government as part of the Heads of the Valleys Programme.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has given its support to the project and said that it will significantly improve drivers' journey times and levels of congestion, as well as mean easier access for motorists.
Part of the road will be made into a dual carriageway which will ease the pressure on the road whilst the rest of the stretch will see similar improvements by 2020.
Ian Gallagher, FTA's policy manager for Wales, said: "By dualling this notoriously poor stretch of what is a crucial trade route linking east and west, the government has addressed a concern that we have had for some time."
A completion date for the project, which has been developed with five local authorities in the region, has been set as 2020.
